Ah yes Badlanz,
where the pale and somewhat
antisocial venture into the daylight to
engage in battle. A fight in which
death holds no
consequence.
For with death
comes rebirth.
Soon after, the cycle is again new and the
battle continues until the limitation kept by time has expired.
To the victor go the spoils and due bragging
rights. For the less of these is only shame
and the bitter sting of defeat. As to whether or
not you should join this fight of true honor.
That choice is yours... and yours alone. |

The Aftermath
4/3/2007
Badlanz is very excited with the success of SECTION-8 and would
like express our gratitude towards all our sponsors; Technology USA,
Long Star Auto Glass( for the great FOOD), Guber Games, Ideazon Inc,
Bawls and NVIDIA. Forty-nine gamers in total showed up and showed
off their skills in the art of electronic gaming and many other gathered
to gaze at the marvel that is SECTION-8. For this event our sponsors
certainly "stepped up to the plate" and sent some extremely cool give
aways. Jacob B. also known as "WhiteDeath" walked away with a Reaper
Gaming mouse courtesy of Ideazon Inc. Jon M. (Saito) won The FANG Game
pad and John B. of Mamma's Robot won the MERC Gaming
keyboard also from Ideazon Inc. Guber Games gave away two gift cards to
their store which opens for business 4/4/2007. Among other prizes were
two large wall stickers with game characters printed on them, a 5.0 mega
pixel camera and other sweet prizes.
Mamma's Robot (Left), competed in the Gear of War Challenge and teams
such as; It burns when I PvP, "The" Mongolians,
Alpha 2 and other teams crumbled at their feet . Rising to the top was
no walk in the park for these C.O.G soldiers
When asked what made his team unique for this challenge Danny H replied,
"It's hard for the novice to comprehend... But we all share the same
pair of lucky underwear". Then Danny returned to his teammates and began
to chant "Mamma's Robot" over and over again.
In other activities, the
Power Supply Toss went over really well. We were kind of iffy on this
one only because when you mix gamers and physical activity you don't
always get cake so to say. Never the less when you tell a group of
people they could possibly win a prize they're more likely to
participate. So after about thirty people threw three computer power
supplies a piece we had a tie and then a toss off and Rich G (Skydude)
was victorious.
All around is seemed like everyone there had a great time. As long as we
have Guitar hero II on a projector and a P.A. system I know that I'll be
entertained. Again Badlanz is incredibly grateful to all our sponsors
and we hope they will continue to sponsor our future events.
Badlanz would also like to thank everyone who attended SECTION-8 gamers
and spectators alike. We better see you all at the next LAN Party. Don't
make make us come looking for you! Remember it's
a LAN Party the emphasis being on party.

Local
Game store opening soon!
Mar. 13, 2007
Guber games, a privately owned video game store that is set
to open in late March. Located in Queen Creek at 2510 E Hunt Hwy Ste.12
Queen Creek, AZ 85243."My wife and I have made gaming our passion, and
we would like to share this with all the fellow gamers out there. Like
most gamers, we were introduced to the industry by the Nintendo NES
system. We have grown along side the industry, as they have produced
faster and better games. And, we hope to continue to do so with all of
you" says Fred Robertson on the stores website (www.gubergames.com)
. Fred and his wife Amanda own and operate Guber games. Badlanz looks
forward to the opening and can't want to support a local game
store.
Also to promote the stores opening, Guber games has agreed to sponsor our
next event SECTION-8. And will be sending some prizes to be given away.
So I hope that our local gamers will return this kind gesture by
supporting Guber games.

To all gamers,
While preparing for our next event (Section-8) we applied for sponsorship
with quite a few companies. Some generated an automatic response that
were sent through email and some have yet to respond. But of all the
companies we applied with one stood out. Matrix Orbital, they also
replied with an email, oh but there was something strangely different
about this email. It was from a REAL person. I know what you’re
thinking. Liar, liar, pants on fire, but my friends your wrong. Candace Buchart of Matrix Orbital sent us an email explaining the terms of
sponsorship with Matrix Orbital and even though we don’t qualify for
their sponsorship Candace was kind, professional and most of all a real
person. So if any of you gamers out there get the opportunity to support
Matrix Orbital please do so. I know that I will.

A
little history lesson
"LAN
parties originated from early single-player
Unix games
such as Larn,
Hack,
Rogue, and
Hunt the Wumpus that kept scoreboards on a centralized server. At
this point the majority of the people playing these games were
university students who had access to such systems for schoolwork.
Another early incarnation of network gaming was
Xanth Software F/X's
MIDI
Maze. Programmed for the Atari ST, the game allowed up to 16
computers (though any number above four caused instability) to be linked
together via the ST's MIDI ports and deathmatch games to be played over
the makeshift network. With the release of
Id Software's
Doom in
1993, the gameplay that MIDI Maze pioneered was perfected, allowing four
players either to cooperate in the game's singleplayer campaign or to
fight each other in a deathmatch game. As a result, network gaming (and
consequently LAN parties) grew. The initial explosion for the LAN Party
scene occurred with the release of the shareware version of
Id Software's
Quake in
1996. The release of Quake closely coincided with the release of many
low-cost
Ethernet
NIC and
hub packages from companies such as
Linksys
and
Realtek allowing for easy ad-hoc LAN building. An additional factor
was ease with which computers were able to be networked domestically
with the then recently-released
Windows 95".
